The Ministry of Fisheries has developed a curriculum based
teaching resource called 'Fish for Tomorrow'.
Designed by teachers, for teachers, it aims to:
- Meet several elements of the Social Sciences and Tikanga a Iwi
curriculum.
- Enhance community awareness of the management of marine life
Specifically targeted at Years 4-6, you and your students
can learn about:
- Real fisheries management issues
- Protecting New Zealand's future fish stocks
- Fishing interests of tangata whenua, recreational fishers, commercial
fishers and environmentalists
- Fishing quotas and rules
Activities include:
- An interactive DVD
- Matching photos of species of fish with their habitat
- Poster development
- Reading references
- Discussion prompts
